Magical Tuscia
day 1 - usa - rome
Depart USA to Rome airport (FCO).
day 2 - rome
Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Time
to unpack rest and explore Rome.
day 3 - rome
Morning guided tour through the Eternal
City seeing the Roman Forum, St. Peter’s
Basilica, Coliseum and the Moses’ of
Michelangelo in St. Peter’s in Chains.
Afternoon at leisure. See also Piazza
Navona, the Phanteon and Piazza di
Spagna (BB)
day 4 - rome - bolsena
After breakfast, we head north following the
Consular road build at Aurelio’s time on the
Tyrrhenian coast passing Civitavecchia and
reaching the Etruscan town of Tarquinia. A
guided visit to the Necropolis will give the
idea of the past glory of this town. Time
to visit the town’s principal palaces such
as Palazzo Vitelleschi and St. Mary of the
Citadel church in Romanesque style. Stop
in Tuscania to visit the Roman Byzantine
Church. We then reach the shore of Lake
Bolsena and our country house. After
check in, meet with the owner for a welcome
drink and dinner overlooking the
lake at sunset. (BB D)
day 5 - bolsena - viterbo - bolsena
Day to explore and visit the Tuscia district.
First a stop to Bagnaia crowned by the Villa
Lante, the country house of several popes
and also a great example of Renaissance
gardening style. Visit at Bagnaia where
Prince Charles did his architectural school.
Then to the pope’s city of Viterbo, still encircled
by its walls that has kept a medieval
air which is accentuated by the number of
its artisans. Stop in Bomarzo Monster’s
Park, built by Vicinio Orsini and is considered
the first cultural Disneyland. Time at
leisure. Return to Bolsena for a cruise over
the largest lake in Italy of volcanic origin,
seeing Bisentina Island, once summer residence
of the popes and the crown territory
of this crater. Return to the country house
for dinner. (BB D)
day 6 - cività - todi - orvieto -
bolsena
Morning drive to Cività Bagnoregio, a spectacular
and unique citadel located over a
volcanic ridge corroded through the centuries
by natural events and united to the
world by a long narrow bridge. Then after
crossing the Tiber River and entering
Umbria, we reach Todi. A little old town
on a pretty site overlooking a valley that
has preserved some remarkable buildings.
Amongst them, you’ll see also three sets
of walls: Etruscan, Roman and Medieval.
Later we reach and visit Orvieto, not only
famous for its white wines but also of its
predominant position over the Tiber Valley.
We see the Cathedral completed in the 14th
century where thirty-three architects, 152
Sculptures, 68 painters and 90 artists took
part of the creation of this imposing masterpiece.
Visit also the Old Quarter. Return
to Bolsena for dinner. (BB D)
day 7 - bolsena -siena - florence
This morning, we drive through a beautiful
landscape to San Quirico d’Orcia. We
visit this charming village and its geometric
garden created around 1580. Then to
Siena, important medieval town, known
for its horse race “Il Palio” and its cookies.
Later we will drive along the Chianti road
to Florence, capital of Renaissance Art.
A walking guided tour will show you the
Cathedral and Baptistery with its famous
Golden Doors, the medieval quarter and
Signoria Square. We visit the Academy of
Fine Arts seeing Michelangelo’s David and
other masterpieces. Time free for shopping.
Late afternoon, return to Bolsena for
dinner. (BB D)
day 8 - bolsena
After breakfast, we visit this charming little
town of Bolsena with its Castle, the museum
and St. Cristina Church famous for the
Miracle of the Eucharist. The rest of the day
at leisure. Tonight, you are invited by the
owner to a special Dinner Party. (BB D)
day 9 - bolsena - rome airport
Early departure to reach the Rome airport
(FCO) for your return flight. (BB)
